App Reviews

  • Only Worked the First Day

    By Abf<3Stf
I was so excited about this app since I was able to turn off everything when needed. But after they first night, I was not able to pause my child's phone. The app could not locate my child's phone. It was pretty useless and frustrating! It definitely needs some work!
  • Great concept, lacking in consistent execution

I’ve had Control since August and when it works it’s awesome. When it doesn’t it causes more issues than not. Parent phone says paused, child phone not paused. Can pause it unpause from parent app and it says can’t reach child device. I’ve completely uninstalled and reinstalled at the recommendation of the Support person and that worked for a minute. Now we’re back to it not working again. Very frustrating when you work in a different state than your child and then have to spend hours messing with the stupid app when you’re home to visit. His father is not technical so I am the only one who can do it and I don’t want to have to keep reloading his phone completely every visit. Time to find a new app that works better. Really a shame because I love the idea. Response to Developers: It’s far more than getting out of sync while processing commands. It’s a complete disconnect of the ability to apply or remove any commands at all. I’ve installed OurPact and am much happier with the behavior of the app and the robust features for less MRC. Your app has potential but leaves a lot to be desired still.
  • Used to love it....😡

Update—sadly I must also add that now with iOS 11 I’m noticing this app logs me out. I haven’t checked the switches in the two times this has happened but I will now. I had to log back into the app today when my daughter texted that her texts and apps (& safari, which I never allow) were on. Still begging for updates from Apple and TS to be aligned. I HAVE heard others having problems with ios 11 logging them out of Other apps as well, and in addition some apps will ok longer work. In the end I’m staying a believer in TeenSafe, I’m still recommending this, but this is a real pain that I wish would stop happening. I upgraded to a 2 Star for now because customer support has been stellar, immediate, and appropriate.
  • Tech issues and hidden fees

This app has been nothing but trouble from Day 1. Installation required my daughters phone to be wiped completely (we have T1 so it’s not a bandwidth issue), the “schedule” makes it’s own times or fails to turn off and on, and it allows apps that are explicitly blocked. To manage by phone, you have to have TWO subscriptions and guess what? For my husband to have access, you have to get ANOTHER PAID SUBSCRIPTION. ***To be clear, this was straight from TeenSafe’s rep via email, so it’s not like you can just share log-in information.

    1. I purchased TeenSafe Control and TeenSafe Monitor. 2. I know MDM very well (which is what both products are) 3. I have developed software before. TeenSafe Control nearly bricked an iPhone. Don’t know why but I had to use DFU to restore it. I managed to get it on 3 devices eventually but the setup is very convoluted and if it fails (e.g. not enough space on the device, which you don’t find out until it fails), you have to contact support... WHICH IS ONLY DURING M-F from 8-5pm, when most people are at work. Lame. Half the time the “pause” function didn’t work like it was supposed too. When it did, it wipes out the folders on the phone (which it isn’t suppose to do). Evidently they were able to address this in iOS 9 but there is no fix in iOS 11. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE I setup TeenSafe Monitor on only one device to test it out... while in the trial. It requires the Apple ID and password of the device. Well, I have it but then the next day, Apple sent us a message saying the account was compromised and we HAD to change the password. My assumption is that this service isn’t certified by Apple. That is a big problem. Oh, they charged me $14.99 for the trial that I was still under. I could go on more but I’ll leave it there. This may have been a good solution 3 years ago but it is not today. I will be promptly removing everything off of the devices and going back to the drawing board. I wish I acknowledged some of the other reviewers - it would have saved me $25. (I am suspect of the high star rating BTW - simply not possible based on my experience). ABSOLUTE WORST PURCHASE I’VE HAD ON THE APP STORE.
  • Horrible App

I am not sure why this has such good reviews. The app is horrible. It only works when it wants to and our son would always have to reset settings once it phone opened back up. You can’t send a message and have it go through when the safe mode is off. I was paying $25 a month and just cancelled. Going with our phone service for $5 a month.

Disappointingly, there are no good apps to help control iPhones, so when we saw this one with rave reviews, we were excited. We’ve been using this app for about a month on iPhones. So far, we’ve had a terrible time installing it on our sons’ phones, had a terrible time trying to set and monitor apps, and had a terrible time with my phone randomly shutting off access to one of the controlled phones. The set up instructions took us days to figure out and finalize, and my wife and I are both college educated people. She is also very technologically savvy, and this blew both our minds. I wanted to add that my wife tried to contact support while setting up the phones, and they did respond, but it was more than a week later. It takes SIX HOURS for any sort of back up to happen to get text messages, and therefore has only been performed once. I understand that some of the problems we have are are due to Apple’s limitations on third party apps. But, it’s still annoying. We’ve had the app installed on our sons’ phones for several weeks. Today, one of my son’s phones just disappeared. Then, it says we need to finish setting up their phone. IT WAS DONE! How could it suddenly need to be set up again. There are two things I see as good here. One, I can set a block of time that the phones don’t work, so I shut it down at night. Second, they just added control for individual apps.

My son figured out how to erase the profile on his phone in less than an hour. There’s no way to block him from doing it even with restrictions. Disappointed.
  • Had nothing but problems the second day

First I was expecting to tap on this app and be able to see GPS and Text message history, nope not possible. The app is only used to pass, change or restrict use on your child’s phone. To monitor GPS location, text messages, internet activity, etc. you have to use an internet service. Yes that isn’t bad, I agree, so I have to click on a different app so what. Second every time I pause or change setting on my child’s phone it resets his phone. Puts iPhone apps back on he has deleted, and reset the appearance of his phone. I purchased the subscription to try to help him not make things more stressful on him. Third, the second day I tried to use the monitoring portion (GPS location and text message) the website told me his iPhone find was not on or his location services was not on. I call BS on this because I was sitting right by him and tested it out when I knew everything was on and it still didn’t work. Than when I called customer service they told me I was using Safari Internet browser when I know for a fact I wasn’t. I had downloaded Chrome and Firefox, neither of them worked. The first day was great but I have cancelled my subscription because Teensafe is nothing but a headache for me.
  • Worked for 3 days

Location and monitoring lasted for 3 days and just abruptly all stopped updating. Tried to troubleshoot with the very uneducated people at teensafe and just ended up cancelling. Waist of money.
