iOS App Reviews

  • Terrible video/AirPlay implementation

    By mskblackbelt
I assume that there are recommended APIs for video on iOS, and this app doesn’t seem to use any of them. Trying to cast video over airplay doesn’t support subtitles… or the play button. So I decided to mirror the screen, and then non of the aTV function work. You’re can do subtitles, but the take up 20% of the screen, because they’re sized for the iPhone still. Please, BBC, spend some time working to make this app work. The Amazon Prime channel works far better, and I’ll likely be switching once their aTV app is released.
  • The app just doesn't work

    By Meatbagicus
The idea of the service is great. The app is non functional. And I don't mean it had a few quirks or bugs. After subscribing and clicking on a show I'm consistently taken to a screen that thanks me for subscribing then gives me two options... Subscribe or cancel! But wait, this is the thanks for subscribing screen right?!? It gets better. Neither button actually does anything! Argh! Like nothing. Click it all you want, nothing happens. So even once you subscribe it's impossible to watch a show. I am not making this up folks. It's a disaster on scale with the best Fawlty Towers episodes.
  • Not worth it.

I'm on day two of the trial period. It worked fine the day I downloaded it. Now it won't search as I've called the wheel of death. I searched for a show and it said no results, only to find it in the master list. Constantly crashes. Your on your way but if it can't work during trial lot of people will bail. Do hope your reading these.
  • Crashes

    By mohrplease
I like the variety of Britbox. I also have Acorn and am a member of PBS so I can watch all the Brit shows offered by PBS. More often than not, Britbox will crash during a show. When I try to reload it, it will crash at the same time during the same show. It's very frustrating. The last show I watched crashed 5 times! At first I thought it was my phone but seems to be a common theme after reading some of the other reviews.
  • Great app and wonderful selection of British TV

    By Dr. Arwen
The app works well and I can easily mirror the iPad app through my Apple TV. Lots of great documentaries and British tv shows available for a reasonable price. With britbox and Netflix's I do not miss cable tv.
  • Good Content, but sign in issues

    By merman_93
I am a huge Brit tv fan, and luckily live in DC metro area where we get a unique PBS channel, WETA UK showing 24 hour Brit programming. Even though it's wonderful, I also subscribe to Acorn, and now BritBox to round out my options with very few duplications. However, I have had to sign out and back in every day to access BritBox as I am prompted with " invalid token". This is got to be resolved soon. Support suggests to sign out and back in, duh,... I get that, but every day? UPDATE...I've adjusted my rating to 5 stars after sign in issues resolved. Britbox app support contacted me to confirm their update corrected my issue. Barely over a week new, and already more content. I haven't used any other apps all month! Very Happy!! Edit/Update Several months on and I'm still loving this app!!! No longer any sign in issues. I've learned that 95% of the classic Doctor Who episodes that are NOT available on BritBox can be watched on Dailymotion, although some are animated.
  • Confusing UI, Several bugs

I tried using this app with the Chromecast feature and it crashes often. The Chromecast screen doesn't allow me to drag and move video to desired time.
  • Great app, bandwidth issues for me

    By little Gilligan
Beautiful app works great with Apple TV v4. Wonderful alternative to the cable options when traveling. We would have kept using, but the bandwidth in our house is not fast enough to load the content without serious buffering issues. -no trouble with other streaming service. The only criticism would be that the seasons button (to select other seasons) of was not obvious at first, but delighted that the content was not abridged to limited seasons. We never even reached for the DVD's we brought with us on holiday because the app worked so well. Great alternative and lots of content. Again, just bandwidth issue for us.
  • Love your channel but....

    By DisneyMagic55
Your app is terrible!!!! Half the time it can't remember where you were in the show so you have to guess and try to find your spot again. It's like going back to a VCR from using a DVD player. It's very frustrating. It also doesn't let you play the next episode without leaving and going back in. Please work on this app and fix it!!! I love the shows on here but the frustration caused by your app may cause me to cancel my subscription.
  • Works well, great streaming

    By oceans777
As of September this app works very well and we've had zero issues. Easy to stream with great performance and the program layout makes it dead simple to see and browse. Only complaint is BritBox presents Morse in a tiny square of video with zero options to expand or scale it better to our screens. I know it's an old show at 480 but please give us some options to scale it or fill the screen better. 2-3 inches of black border around it looks terrible. Great streaming service and let's hope they add new content and offer more than the now disappointing and very stale Acorn.
