App Reviews

  • Broken night mode

    By Bdobbs
The latest update seems to have broken night mode - it resets for every article. Very jarring for someone used to 100% night mode reading. Also annoying how often it loses place within an issue, defaulting to the table of contents (after an ad impression each time). Overall, the reading experience has degraded in the past year.
  • More bad than good in the new app

    By GenericTadpole4
Love the The Economist. I use the app mainly to listen to the audio, the quality of which seems to have suffered in the recent update. Also the button that controls audio speed is now invisible for some reason. This continues to be a problem. They removed the incredibly annoying collapsing audio control menu (please NEVER bring that back). But the old version had the ability to order your playlist. PLEASE bring that back. Otherwise, the design is kinda simple and sorta meh. I don't understand why the quality of the app seems to be deteriorating over time rather than improving. Quite frustrating. No support for iPhone X yet and is therefore buggy on that device.
  • Still miserable after all these years

    By Davidnyc10024
For anybody that is unlucky enough to want to use it on the subway, the economist seems intent on disrupting an otherwise great read with badly designed technology to optimize ad reads over ease of use so you mostly spend your entire journey waiting for ads to load.
  • Font too large on iPhone

    By AngryFrustratedDone
Bring back normal and small sized fonts. It’s incredibly annoying having to perpetually scroll to read at even a slow pace being so few words are on the screen.
  • Real news

    By Leegoolaas
In a time of fake news, infomercials and infotainment we have few bastions of thoughtful, balanced news. Too few sources that are detailed enough to explore the subject. Thanks to the economist for keeping us informed enough to weather the storm of banality.
  • The Economist is great, but the app needs tweaking.

    By Icblue54
95% of the time the app is fine. I read an article and have to remember my place often because the app won’t do it for me. App shuts down sometimes, mild inconvenience because it only happens if I’m taking too long to read something. I actually like to read the economist with the audio playing. But the audio reads so unbelievably slow. Can we please add some speed options? Or can I play it through a third party player? Add audio speeds and I’ll change to five stars.
  • Disappointing

    By Rudolphmax
I love The Economist but was told it was a “business decision” not to maintain the multiple speed player. Whatever happened to customer service. I listen to this app starting every Thursday and used to get through the entire magazine often within a couple days. Now it takes me a full week - to listen to other podcasts I have to skip parts of this one. Very disappointing for the best business magazine.
  • messed up the update

    By gnz1
The app is supposed to let you read the magazine offline, but it won’t let you read the magazines that you have downloaded if you are offline, because it gets stuck in the opening ad (the one you have to swipe) if you are not connected. This makes reading the Economist in my subway commute impossible.
  • Ok app

    By Very unhappy very
Ok app can’t go from bottom of article to beginning of next. Magazine is great
  • Inexcusable

    By Stef Geiger
This app is incredibly buggy, to the point that it's clear the Economist group has no respect for its subscribers.
