  • Buggy

Great selection of books but the app crashes every 5 minutes!
  • Best reading app!

I’ve been a subscriber for years now and with their new subscription offering unlimited reads with little to no limitations I see myself being one for years to come. Scribd has an extensive library books to choose from and while some titles may not be available I find I can obtain what I’m looking for 90% of the time.
  • 5 stars for library size. 1 Star for app functionality

Why so many issues? Always freezing and takes forever to load anything. I end up having to restart the app almost every time I go elsewhere for any period of time. I don’t have nearly as many problems with any other app. I love your service but I really don’t get how it’s so hard to make a well functioning app.
  • Excellent!

Great variety of titles more than audible. Unlimited reading is awesome also
  • Audiobook disappeared after listening to it for 2 hours.

I was listening to The Gunslinger by Stephen King, then the app crashed and the entire series was nowhere to be found on the app.
  • Very impressed! I'm happy to have a real audible alternative.

My experience so far has been excellent, and the selection of books and magazines seems bigger than I had hoped for.
  • In-app navigation is perplexing..

Hi. I’m super frustrated at how this app is meant to flow. I’m using iPad Pro . Can’t see how to nag back to prior search page. If I click on a title I am locked there, no clear way out to orig search or even prior page. Avid user of overdrive, Libby and other digital media platforms....both web and app based, but I am flummoxed by your app. Help!
  • I want to like it...

Scribd gets a few things right, but somehow fails utterly on what should be the most important feature: reliable tracking/bookmarking of audiobooks in progress. Very often, resuming playback will jump ahead to a random chapter. Also, playback skips a few moments at the start of each chapter and sometimes just stops altogether. Reading other reviews, these problems have been going on for quite some time, so they don’t seem to consider them a high priority to fix. Maybe I’m weird, but I consider not losing my place in a book a fundamental requirement. Audible is more expensive, but the app experience makes it worth it if you value your time.
  • Read the other negative reviews.....

UPDATE: With version 8.5.0, it seems the problem has been fixed. There are still some bugs but I can easily live with them. I love the problem this app solves: it allows me to explore new ideas, new worlds, and to emerge a bigger person. Listening to audiobooks this way is life changing. That said, the app consistently crashes during audiobook playback. I’ve tried everything I can to make it work (changing things in settings, clearing caches, airplane mode, downloading content to offline, and more) but the app almost always crashes after a few minutes and then upon resuming sometimes loses its place. What’s more perplexing is that on occasion it will work without crashing. I’ve reached out via email with “Attention James” with no response whatsoever. It seems like they post that at the end of every negative review as PR. I can not recommend this app until they let us know what is going on and that they are aware that more paying customers than just myself are unable to enjoy their service because of this issue. Look at the other 1 star reviews and then imagine how many others who haven’t reviewed the app have the same issue. Please fix this, Scribd!! And despite the issue, thanks for working on this life changing idea.
  • Great idea, incredibly poor execution

While the service idea is great, and the catalogue is decent, this app fails so often at it’s number one purpose I am considering canceling: audio playback. - Offline storage works sporadically, a book will be saved but then will ‘hang’ when trying to playback. - My place in playback is almost never stored between uses, when I resume playback it almost always is skipped forward to some future chapter. - Sometimes the the skipping forward happens DURING playback, eg when multitasking and switch to a from the app. Like are you guys even using some kind of memory management? It’s like the playback gets killed for not enough resource allocation, which is ridiculous because this is a huge aspect of Swift and this case is no different that any of the other podcast or music streaming apps out there. There should be 3 core features that need to work in an audiobook app: finding books via search, audiobook playback and maintaining the users position in the audiobook. That is the service, everything else is superfluous. If you get it straight you can compete with audible etc, if not people are going to walk away frustrated. Note at time of writing I am using the most up to date version.
