Babbel – Learn Languages App Details

Learn Spanish, French, Italian, German, and many more languages with Babbel. Developed by a team of language learning experts, Babbel has helped millions of people speak a new language with confidence. THE BABBEL METHOD Here’s what makes Babbel more effective than any other language learning app: 1. Confidence — Our goal is to get you speaking from your very first lesson. And our elegantly designed courses give you the confidence to get there. We teach you how to engage in practical, everyday conversations, making it easier for you to have authentic experiences in your new language. 2. Comprehension — Our lessons immerse you in relevant culture and real-life conversations. We want you to really take in the language, not just memorize useless phrases. And we provide helpful hints in English (or your native language) to make your new language more relatable. 3. Retention — We know you’re busy. That’s why our lessons are short but sweet: about 10-15 minutes, and designed to send your new language straight to long-term memory. We regularly refresh your memory with our dynamic review sessions, which target areas where you need improvement most. Finally, we make sure you really grasp what you’re learning by bringing it back later in a new context. • Too much vosotros

    By Carriel313
I didn’t realize during my trial how...prevalent the vosotros verb form is in the program with no way to skip it. I moved to Mexico and I’m only interested in Latin American Spanish. Spain only comprises maybe 3% of the Spanish speaking world, so the tense is completely useless to most SSL learners. As an intermediate speaker, it’s made things more difficult than they should be. Otherwise, i really like the program and it fits my learning style well.
  • Not enough

    By JDLT52109
Is there really just one lesson and then a subscription needed? That’s not enough to know if I want to Subscribe. That feels shady.

    So far so good
  • Quite good for Dutch

likes: unlike Duolingo, grammar and vocabulary list that Dutch people actually use. (I take conversation lessons and everything I've double checked with her seems to be accurate and common use.) I like the mix of exercise types, the usage notes, and in general, the app interface dislikes: the pronunciation good but is imperfect, there's waaay too much emphasis on 'n's at the ends of words, which is (as far as I've been taught by multiple sources and nearly two years living in Amsterdam) not standard. They should be (save a few exceptions) barely there, not hard finishes like in German verbs and plurals. In the writing exercises it is not always clear if the stressed or unstressed pronoun is desired and you get it wrong if you use the undesired one—even if the answer is correct. Also goes for vocab reviews where you have several options that all mean the same thing. Also i miss from Duolingo the tolerance for small typos, especially since the app's keyboard can be pretty fussy sometimes. So please fix those! But otherwise quite good
  • When you cancel they still charge you

    By would not use
I canceled my membership in February 2018 and they still charged me in March 2018. I was paying a month to month basis. I would not recommend this product very dishonest.

  • J’adore Babbel!

    By mermaids14
I’m loving this app! The lessons are plentiful and fun and you can go at your own pace, though challenging yourself becomes rather addictive and makes you want to keep going, one lesson into the next! I am impressed by how many lessons there are and excited by the breadth and variety. In my estimation and considering how many hours of study you receive, Babbel is a real bargain as learning tool. Some a-ha moments happen along the way. Just when you might think you’re not quite getting it, the lesson structure will help things click. The lessons move you along fairly quickly, so I think the lesson reviews are the key (la cle!) to retaining what you have learned. For me personally, I’m glad that I went into this with a public school French class foundation. Remembering and revisiting the basics of what I had studied nearly 40 years ago makes building upon a desired, but latently pursued skill all the more satisfying. A+++!
  • It’s great’

    By Awsome random person ;)
As the only person in my family who isn’t completely fluent in Spanish (yet), I’m so glad to have found out about this program. It’s easy to use and really does help me expand my vocabulary and gain a deeper understanding of the language itself. I am now able to maintain conversation with family members who cannot speak English better than before. Hopefully Korean is added to the list of languages we’re able to learn. I’d love to be able to understand it!
  • Worked, but cost money

    By mehdhdjs
This app seemed like it would work, but you have to pay to get any further than a single lesson. I don't have this kind of money right now, so kind of disappointed.
  • Much better

Better than duo. Love the conversational focus.
