  • Well. It's a Rip off

Long time user here. I paid over 100 dollar for the maps I need. The update to the "new" TomTom app is not useable. Almost 6GB of data? Are you kidding me? I fly constantly across the states and would have to download before hand the smaller map for where I will go next. Thats a joke right? So, TomTom. Perhaps you can provide me a phone with enough memory so I can at least try the "great new app"??? I guess not. This shows that some companies have no shame to take your money and screw the customer after a while. It's true that the "life time" is for the software and not he life of the user. But it's the company decision to kill the software and announce that the update is "a new software", and all this just to get rid of the previous obligations. That's a truly business decision and nothing else. This was not a "software decision". Really TomTom??? I believe in karma and therefore I hope TomTom manager go where they belong.

I can't believe they are dumping such a good app and replacing it with such a bad one. Not even step by step directions, hard to Navigate, If they don't go back I'm moving on to Waze. Reminds me of how Evernote screwed up a perfectly good app in Pen Ultimate and drove their users to competition.
  • Bad Idea

Moving to a subscription model after users paid for the TomTom app is a bad idea. The good news is that there are many other apps in the App Store that do not require subscription. So I have changed to another navigation app.

Tom Tom what a shame! I loved the original Tom Tom and GO is a terrible substitute. My husband never understood why I had Tom Tom in the first place, he always said,"just use the MAPS app that comes with the phone." He's right, and now I will.

Analysis: Change for the sake of change...and they made it worse. The only thing awesome about GO is the video they made telling us how awesome it is. I've been a paid user of TomTom USA for many years on my motorcycle for long trips in unfamiliar areas of the USA - as well as for local navigation in the Houston Metro area. Under threat of it being replaced by the GO app, and with the promise of a free three-year subscription, I tried it a month ago on a long trip after familiarizing myself with the new app. TomTom should be embarrassed. They re-released virtually the same app, but with fewer user options to control or draw alternate routes. They moved all the trip info, which was easily readable at a glance on the same portion of the screen, and spread it all over the screen in all four corners. This requires a motorist to spend more time scanning the screen and spend LESS TIME WITH EYES ON THE ROAD. In addition to that, some of these fonts are also MUCH smaller than they used to be. Dangerous. Options to draw alternate maps are limited to three. Previously, it would draw a different option every time I asked it to. Turn by turn audio is even more confusing than the previous app. Exits are announced by street name...not exit number. And it horribly mispronounces even the simplest of names. No option to change this. They changed the active route street color from red to light blue. Impossible to see in bright sunlight. At the very least, color augmentation options should be available by now. I gave it a fair shake. I really did. I'll be using the outdated app for as long as I can stand it. Then...I'll have to find something else.
  • Can you explain what's happening?

I love my Tom-Tom navigation app. Unfortunately it's the old one that they are discontinuing. I tried out the new one when it first came out. It was clunky and inaccurate. Judging from the latest reviews, nothing has changed. I suggest you discontinue the new one and go back to the old one. At the very least, you should explain to your customers why you are discontinuing a lifetime purchase. To anybody reading this: If they don't do the right thing, try Waze. It's free and accurate. I can't tell you about the cost for traffic etc., because I haven't started using it yet (I used it for a month on a friend's phone. )and won't, until my Tom-Tom stops working. It's a great app and I'm loyal to it. It's a shame the app developer isn't.

I purchased the original apps for USA, Canada & Mexico and for Southern Africa. The combined purchase price was once off of $100. Now to get TomTom Go one has to purchase a subscription either monthly or yearly. Once again it comes down to the customer having for fork out more $$'s. I've switched to the new app 'HERE we Go' which is free and works great internationally.
