Inbox by Gmail iOS App Details

Your email inbox should help you live and work better, but instead it often buries the important stuff and creates more stress than it relieves. Inbox, built by the Gmail team, keeps things organized and helps you get back to what matters. • HIGHLIGHTS - Get the most important information without even opening the message. Check-in for flights, see shipping information for purchases, and view photos from friends right up front. • BUNDLES - Similar messages are bundled together so you can deal with them all at once. And get rid of them with one swipe. • REMINDERS - More than mail, you can add Reminders so your inbox contains all the things you need to get back to. • SNOOZE - Snooze emails and Reminders to come back when you are ready to deal with them: next week, when you get home, or whenever you choose. • SEARCH - Inbox helps you find exactly what you’re looking for— from your upcoming flight to a friend's address— without having to dig through messages. • WORKS WITH GMAIL - Inbox is built by the Gmail team, so all your messages from Gmail are here, along with the reliability and spam protection of Gmail. All of your messages are still in Gmail and always will be.

  • How email should be done

Google has tried several times to reinvent email, but they finally nailed it. It's intelligent and intuitive, helping you to prioritize your email, turning email into more of a task list than messaging system. Give it three days and you’ll be hooked.

My email stays tidy, which makes my mental landscape less cluttered. Messages are grouped logically. Highly recommend!
  • It’s a must have for gmail users

I’m just lazy. Sorting email is for suckers. Inbox does it for me so I have spare time to write reviews no one reads. Thanks!
  • Update for iOS 11?

The notifications count is pretty much always wrong. It will say I have unread emails when I don’t. Maybe this started when I updated to iOS 11? Hopefully a bug fix will come out soon! Otherwise, I absolutely love this app.
  • Red badges still appearing even after the email read.

Really irritating 😡 Only way to get rid of this is to remove your account from app and re-add again. PS: So was the Gmail app 😡

Shows the email but nothing in the inbox when you go there.
  • Lacks essential productivity features

The app is, overall, ok, but the missing tools hold it back from being great. Google’s Material UI looks out of place on iOS but that’s not the end of the world. What IS a big deal, though, is the complete lack of support for iPad’s split-screen and slideover features. This could be overlooked if these were new features in iOS, but they aren’t. At all. Other Google apps, like Docs and Sheets, support these modes (though it was a long wait) and it’s really inexcusable that Inbox doesn’t. The app also doesn’t have a watchOS version, which means that Inbox users have to resort to using Mail.app or a 3rd party mail app to use their Google email account on watchOS. Finally, the swipe actions in message list views aren’t configurable like the ones in other mail clients. Swiping left or right on a message offers only one option, rather than several. Yes, you can set a right swipe action to be either delete or archive, but users can’t expose a menu of choices like they can in Spark or even Mail.app, and the left swipe is entirely unconfigurable. These missing features prevent Inbox from being a truly great productivity app for Apple users.

This app is a neat way to keep track of emails using your smart phone. So far nothing but good to say about the app.

Easy, simple and powerful. Especially if you have lots of mail and travel
